Rules Overview
Two players, red & blue, compete in a 12m2 ring against one and other. Points are scored by kicking the opponent from the waist up. Kicks to the body score 1 point and kicks to the head score 2 with the possibility of 3 points if the referee gives a standing count. Each match lasts 3 rounds of 2 minutes. However, there can be exceptions to the duration of the match depending on the age of the players, etc.
Four judges sit at the corner of the ring and score points if they see impact on the target and body displacement. The rule of thumb for point scoring is: hear it see it.
Deductions can be given by the referee based on severity and intention. For example, kicks below the belt would receive a Kyung-go (0.5) deduction if unintentional but if considered deliberate would receive a gam-geon (1.0) deduction. Other illegal moves include pushing your opponent with your hands, falling over, grabbing or holding, unsporting behavior and punching to the face. The punching to the head/face rule was developed to encourage kicking ability.
Below is a video outlining these points and showing point scoring techniques.
